You Are Not Alone

The breathtaking pace with which Trump, Musk and the Maga Republicans are dismantling Constitutional norms and programs that took decades to build feels overwhelming. At first, Democrats seemed stunned to the point of being immobilized. But that is changing, and we want to build on the momentum.

The most immediate thing we can do is to stop the far right from taking over the Wisconsin Supreme Court again. A concerted Democratic effort to take back that Court in a key state two years ago was successful. By shifting the ideological balance on that Court, the Republican gerrymandering of the state’s electoral map was undone, and abortion rights were protected. But an April 1 election for a seat could erase those gains.

Here’s what you can do now:

1.     Contribute to Susan Crawford‘s campaign for Wisconsin Supreme Count. She would be a very capable, progressive justice. Right wing conservatives are investing heavily to elect their candidate and turn back the clock. We need to give Crawford the resources to win.

2.     Write postcards to Wisconsin voters. Wisconsin elections are always tight and off-cycle elections have low voter turnout. We need to remind Wisconsin voters that they need to show up on Election day. Contact Nancy Chasen (nhc2@mac.com) if you want to help. Already three dozen P4Ders are working with us.

3.     Call your Congressional delegation, especially if they are Republican, but calling Democrats is important too. Republicans need to know they will be held accountable for what their party does while they control the White House, the Senate and the House. And Democrats need to be warned that sitting by and watching is unacceptable. -Find contact information here: Member of the House, Senator

4.     Participate in a protest. MOBILIZE is one group that is tracking organized protest events – check it out for one near you.

These are just a few ideas of what YOU can do NOW to push back. But please know it is part of a larger effort that is gaining steam. Dozens of lawsuits have been filed challenging an array of Trump and Musk illegal actions. You can find a list of many of these cases HERE. Thus far, the lower courts – which are hearing these cases – are recognizing the constitutional challenge we face. They are issuing temporary or preliminary injunctions while the full merits of the cases are heard.

The bottom line: if this unprecedented assault on our Constitution and the rule of law is to be stopped, it will take all of us engaging in multiple avenues of resistance. Don’t sit idly by. In the words of the Doors, “The time to hesitate is through. No time to wallow in the mire.”
