P4D I&O: Let's Flip Arizona

We Can Flip 3 House Seats in Purple Arizona

There is a realistic possibility that an aggressive Democratic and well-financed campaign in Arizona could change the complexion of the state’s political composition.  Arizona, traditionally a Republican state, has produced such prominent Republicans as Senators Barry Goldwater and John McCain. President Trump carried it in 2016 and 2024 but lost in 2020 when Joe Biden carried all six swing states.

P4D I&O: The Senate is in Play. Really.

Why Democrats can Win.

Just a few months ago, most pundits thought the Senate was out of reach for Democrats. No more. Democratic control of the Senate is now more than an unrealistic dream.

What changed? For one thing, Trump and his policies have grown more and more unpopular.  His war of choice in Iran, and the cruelty, deaths and lies associated with his mass deportation of immigrants, have compounded his unpopularity.

P4D I&O: North Carolina — Always in the Mix

Sweet Home, Carolina.

North Carolina offers some of the biggest prizes for Democrats in 2026 with a US Senate seat and two key House races up for grabs.  Democrats have an advantage in state races for statewide offices with its candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State prevailing in 2024.

P4D I&O: Democratic Midterm Hopes Rest Heavily on Iowa

Turn Iowa Blue Again

P4D’s midterm tour moves west this week, from Pennsylvania—the subject of our previous email–to Iowa, where we focus on three federal races: the Senate and Congressional Districts 1 and 3.  The state could provide insights into how rural voters react to Trump’s “Make Iran Great Again” agreement…

P4D I&O: The Road to the White House Begins in Pennsylvania

It All Begins Here

No one state can be decisive in presidential or mid-term elections.  Some states, however, are likely to be particularly pivotal, and Pennsylvania is certainly one of them.  Not only has Pennsylvania long been considered a bellwether state – picking the eventual winner in presidential elections since 1900 correctly 78.1 % of the time…

P4D I&O: The Demise of the Voting Rights Act

The Erosion of Our Democracy

The Supreme Court has completed its trifecta in eviscerating the Voting Right Act. Its latest decision, Louisiana v. Callais, neuters Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) by requiring nearly impossible proof that a state’s elimination of a majority-minority district was motivated by race…

P4D I&O: Trump's War on Women

We have all learned what experts have confirmed—that providing opportunities for women benefits all of us. Women are more than half of the population; they contribute or are sole breadwinners to many homes and families; they have many qualifications; as leaders, they enhance collaboration, increase productivity, and improve fairness…

P4D I&O: What's Your Plan for the Midterms?

Have a Strategic Plan

It’s an election year – we finally will have an opportunity to thwart MAGA’s destructive monopoly on federal policy. Winning the House or Senate – or maybe both – won’t be easy.  It will require millions of volunteers and many dollars, including from smaller donors.   If you can contribute money to this effort, what will be your strategy?

A TIME TO RESIST AND REBUILD

The breathtaking pace with which President Trump, Elon Musk and the Republican Party are dismantling Constitutional norms and programs that took decades to build feels overwhelming. At first, many were stunned to the point of being immobilized. But that is changing, and we want to build on the momentum.

P4D, like many other groups, has been assessing what went wrong last November and how constructively to move forward. It is important to be clear about what did not go wrong. We have no doubt about the values for which we stand – a commitment to the rule of law, to an economic system that offers a level playing field where all have an opportunity to compete, to a planet that is habitable for future generations, to the right of each person to live his or her life with dignity, to a judicial system that dispenses justice without preferences based on economic, ethnic or political consideration, to a country where we can live in peace and to a country that is a force for good in the world.

How some of these values have been translated into public policy may have been rejected by a thin majority of American voters. But we doubt that those voters were signing up for a wholesale dismembering of our way of life as we are witnessing. Our challenge in the coming months will be to protect those values and to do so in a way that regains the confidence of our countrymen and women.

We strive to work with those whose values coincide with ours and to resist the efforts of those use public power to benefit only a few. We hope you will join us in this effort.
